When THC is produced in the cannabis plant it is produced as an acid called THC-A.  When you smoke cannabis you decarboxylate it, which means the heat removes the acid and the THC remains.  THC-A can also be decarboxylated using an oven and this is done to “active” distillates.  THC-A is non-psychoactive but has incredible health properties.  In fact THC-A affects one of our oldest neuroreceptors called PPAR.  In particular THC-A modulates PPAR-gamma.  PPAR gamma assists with: fatty acid metabolism, glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity (helps w/T2 diabetes, etc), immune balance, and inflammation.
